In this video we will answer whether a router will give more security from outside attacks, viruses and trojans. The quick answer is yes, but lets delve into network security a bit further and talk about how much a router will actually protect you and how it actually works. Don’t worry, this isn’t going to be a complex lesson in network security. A router has the ability to set up a hardware firewall to protect from outside attacks that may include viruses and trojans. A router does not, however, give network security from everything – most of your security will not come from the router, but from safe surfing and knowing what it is you are downloading.
One Response to “Do Routers Protect From Hacker Attacks, Viruses and Trojans?”

Another great video! I own a linksys wireless router and share the LAN with roommates. I don’t have any serious firewall protection software, and I don’t venture into bad neighborhoods. The thing is, setting up a password on my router was a huge hassle (finding a password and getting to the others in the house), so I have left it open. Am I still safe from viruses?
