For those of you who know me, you know I love entertainment. The great joys of my life are not limited to computers and videogames. Film, movies and television have always been a passion for me, and nothing gets me more worked up than an extremely well written movie or television series.
One of my all time favorite television series' has always been 24 – with it's ability to balance intense action with subtle drama and war. Although inaccurate, like many other television shows, this show really was able to speak to me in terms of heroism and bravery. I have a special appreciation for television and films ability to bring out emotions.
Last night I finished the sixth season of bones on Netflix. Of course, the greatest thing about Netflix is that the entire series is on it. The great thing about a show like Bones is the fact it is character driven. The show isn't so much about solving crimes, sure, that is their job, but it is about the lives of the people who work with death on a day to day basis.
Shows like this add perspective, and when they are done right, like this one is, they also bring about excellent ideas in the moral conflicts between different people and how different people can appreciate one another solely for their differences rather than changing them.
Good writing, in my opinion, is driven by the characters. The characters are so well defined, that throwing them in certain situations and circumstances always results in learning a bit more about who they are and what they stand for. Right now, Bones has done a great job of maintaining that integrity, here is hoping it lasts.
Of course, Bones is one of my favorite shows on televisions right now, but I don't pay for cable. I actually watched the entire series through Netflix and use Hulu Plus to keep up with the latest episodes.
Personally, my favorite comedy bromance right now is Psych – another show driven exclusively by character development and excellent execution of pop culture 80s references.
