Hiaz, well i watched PCMichiana's tut on how to record in HD using CamStudio. i followed all his instructions. i use this to record my gameplay for skulltag but when i record, it comes out laggy (choppy) and the audio is behind the video. none of this happens when i am playing but when its finished recording, well yea, the problems happen. in the vid, it said set the priority for the recorder to "realtime" so if i do that, i get a notification saying, "Unable to set priority to realtime. Set to high instead" i think this is the reason it lags and the audio is behind or it has to do something with my frame rate. i set it to 30. so any answers, please reply :)

It sounds like you do not have permission to set it to real-time. Althought I do not believe this is what is causing your problem. My first question would be whether or not you have an antivirus installed and running in the background. I would first try disabling it completely, especailly the real time scanners. Antivirus programs are very processor intensive programs. Give that a shot and at least let me know if it helps. You had said your processor was in the i family so I doubt it's because you lack enough processing power.

Welcome to the forums!
Anyways, I've had a lot of experience with Camtasia Studio. If you're running one of the newer versions of Camtasia Studio you shouldn't be having a problem. You also probably shouldn't set the priority to "High" with Camtasia Studio as it already uses up more memory than CamStudio whenever it's recording. It's also not suggested to do this on slower computers anyways. This is just the way I do this, Craig has obviously stated the way he does it though.
And unless you have like Norton or McAfee you shouldn't be experiencing lag problems with realtime virus scanners. My computer isn't even that good and it can handle it. Avast actually takes up less memory than most of the programs running on my computer!
If the audio is lagging anyways, you can always adjust it in the timeline. It's really easy as Camtasia Studio offers an actual editing program whereas CamStudio program is free and thus doesn't come as a full "studio" program.

Wolfy.

It could also just be the microphone hardware that's giving you the problem. Like I said though, just move the audio over so it's synced with the video.

well i got camtasia and did the same things in it as i did with camstudio. everything got fixed :D but the only problem is, the size is freakishley large! 6 gb for a 2 min long vid! is it because im useing the lossless codec? what could be the reason?

It depends on the recording size, the quality you're recording with, etc. 2GB is kind of big for 2 minutes though, I don't know why it's that big in the first place. Camtasia Studio even produces smaller files than that.
BTW, you could just keep using Camtasia Studio and do what I've been suggesting for oh, the last 2 posts.

That's extremely normal with the lossless codec. There is no degradation to the video at all. Most every other software out there is lossy. You will get true HD from CAMStudio. At the cost of some HD space. Reducing framerate to 30 will help.
