First, you want to download the service manual for your Laptop and make sure the instructions for replacing your processor do not intimidate you:

http://laptoprepairmanual.blog…..anual.html

Extract the manual into it's own folder and double click on index.html to get started.

Second, I am assuming you know your new processor is supported by your motherboard, if not, make sure you talk to Dell support and ensure it is compatible.

If you know the processor is compatible it really doesn't matter what Dell recommends. If their firmware and hardware supports the upgrade you can go ahead and do it. They don't recommend it because opening your Laptop will void your warranty and they don't want to be held responsible if you do something wrong.
