I originally had a whole different question planned for today, but after reading about the new DLC for Assassin's Creed II, I had no choice but to ask this one instead.
For those of you that don't know, Ubisoft has announced that the First set of DLC for ACII was originally supposed to be in the game, but was cut due to "time restrains" (IE… the SOBs wanted to make a quick buck, so they just removed it from the game so that they could charge us for it later).
So what I want to know from you guys is how do you feel about downloadable content as a whole. Also, what do you feel is the ideal usage for DLC & what is the best piece of DLC that you have ever downloaded?
well to be totally honest I think downloadable content is too easy to have pirated but I never download any games because all the games I play are on xbox.
I think DLC should be more popular like more DLC should be out for more games, i think the best DLC i ever downloaded was Shivering Isles for oblivion..
Personally I love the idea of downloadable content. It has existed on the PC platform forever – mostly under the banner of "mods" or "expansions". Undoubtedly some companies will try to take advantage of the downloadable content system, but Microsoft typically does a good job of weeding out the scams (they have a stringent policy on what qualifies as DLC and what doesn't).
I've already downloaded two pieces of downloadable content for Dragon Age and they have definitely been worth the $5 to $10 they cost. Plus they just added a rating system to Live recently so I can actually see what others have rated it before I purchase it.
If you think about it, Assassins Creed II as a standalone game is incredible, and it's not like you bought "half" or a "section" of the game when you bought it, you get the entire game – DLC, by Microsoft's Standards, must be standalone content that people don't "have" to buy in order to experience the full game.
I'm okay with a game coming out months earlier without specific content because I will be able to play those games for a few months, and then when they release the content, re-experience the game with a new edge!
I personally think they should just include everything in the game, they shouldn't wait and make us pay more money to get something that we shouldn't have to be paying for. I think that anyone who bought the game should get it free, because it's their faults for not including it. Now, this is just for AC2, there are some they actually do think of afterwards and in that sense it wouldn't be their faults and of course it would be only fair to pay for those DLC's.
